What's Happening In Your Area
Activity
The Greets Green Plan is in place as a direct result of community consultation.
Housing was identified early on as a key issue within Greets Green, with the following
concerns being seen as central:
- Unstable housing demand.
- Limited housing choice, with a high proportion of social housing
- Lack of new build sites.
- Poor conditions within the private sector housing market.
As a result, the Greets Green Housing Plan was drawn up in partnership with
Greets Green NDC and Sandwell MBC to deal with these issues and begin regenerating
the area. To date, Urban Living has invested £24.6 million in order to:
- Demolish 395 properties
- Acquired 313 properties
- Acquired and assembled 3.6 hectares of land for phased redevelopment.
Residents have been consulted from the outset in a variety of ways and in areas
specifically affected by the plans, individual home visits were arranged.
Phase One 'Claypitt Lane and Wattle Road' will be marketed to the private sector during 2010.
Further plans are well advanced for a new "extra care village" in the Edith Street area which should start in October 2010.
In recognition of their work with residents, the Greets Green consultation team
received a commendation for their work at the 2006 RegenWM Awards.
