Newtown

Newtown has been a spatial priority area for Urban Living since its inception with three main areas where Urban Living investment is being targeted. These fit within a Masterplan for Newtown currently nearing completion. Community consultation to date is being evaluated to determine an appropriate way forward for future projects. The main areas of intervention are shown on the map above and can be summarised as follows:

North East Newtown - here the clearance of obsolete stock has been ongoing for some time. BCC are partnering Urban Living on this scheme. Masterplanning is now well underway and consultation has been progressed with a local organisation ‘First Class Youth,’ to maximise the local resident involvement in the proposals.

Crocodile Works - where redevelopment is due to start on an ex-industrial cleared site. This development is progressing in partnership with Midland Heart.

Pannel Croft - where the assembly of land is ongoing to achieve a large site for an extra care village.

By 2011 it is anticipated that over 360 new homes will be created.
