Summerfield & City Canalside

This is one of Urban Living’s priority spatial intervention areas (SIA). The population in this area is very ethnically diverse and research has shown there to be a greater needs for larger family homes and environmental improvements. Recent Neighbourhood Renewal Assessments have been undertaken and are informing the wider strategy in the area.

The physical interventions have centred on the Summerfield area which has become Birmingham's first 'Eco quarter’ thanks to a partnership between Urban Living, Birmingham City Council, Family HA and Be Birmingham. This has resulted in a range of refurbishments of older properties, installation of solar panels and environmental improvements. Alongside this there has been extensive community engagement and support of educational activities.

In addition, to maximise the regeneration that has taken place so far, there are several key development sites in the area which Urban Living is investing in through its Western Growth Corridor (WGC) initiative (click here).

Complementing this work, two Neighbourhood Renewal Assessments have been completed in other estates in the area. These are informing the WGC strategic framework and subsequent masterplanning.
